GUJARAT TO HAVE TALLEST STATUE IN THE WORLD

Sunday, October 31st, 2010 9

Today is Sardar Patel Jayanti. It has really been a Divine Blessing for our country that we had with us at the time of independence both as leader and as part of our government a super human being like Vallabhbhai Patel.

┬а

August 1947 was a challenging month. While it heralded the liberation of Mother India after centuries of thralldom, the joy of freedom was eclipsed by the trauma of a bloody partition, and the uprooting of millions from their hearths and homes.

┬а

Sardar Patel assumed office in Pandit NehruтАЩs cabinet as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in August 1947. But his stewardship was available to the country for less than three and a half years. He passed away in December, 1950. And yet the amount of work he was able to Click to Read More

GUJARAT CONGRESS IN A STATE OF SHOCK

Monday, October 25th, 2010 6
6

I do not recall the election result of civic bodies in any state causing such a political upheaval as has occurred in Gujarat last week.

┬а

The Congress party in the state has been shocked by the results of the Municipal and Panchayat elections.

┬а

Gujarat Congress President Siddharth Patel has tendered his resignation owning тАШmoral responsibilityтАЩ for the defeat. The Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly and Congress Party Leader, Shaktisinh Gohil has also quit his post.

THE 11/26 ATTACK ON MUMBAI (through WashingtonтАЩs eyes)

Sunday, October 24th, 2010 2
2

In the first week of November, President Barack Obama is to visit India. A few weeks before his arrival, a friend in New York has sent me a book titled ObamaтАЩs Wars, written by Bob Woodward, Associate Editor at The Washington Post. I recall reading his earlier books, All the PresidentтАЩs Men and The Final Days about the Watergate episode, and Bush at War about the 9/11 terrorist attack on the U.S. It was WoodwardтАЩs reporting on Watergate and 9/11 terrorism that earned him the Pulitzer Prize twice.

AN UNPARDONABLE GAFFE

Sunday, October 17th, 2010 11
11

Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of J&K State has indeed made history. No other Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir has ever taken exception to anyone saying that J&K State is an integral part of India. Omar has not only chided the BJP for doing so but has gone further to make an assertion over which both the separatists in the State as well as the Pakistani media have gone into raptures.┬а

┬а

In a recent statement in the State Assembly, Omar has said: Jammu and Kashmir State has acceded to India; it has not merged with India.

┬а

Fact is that all the over 500 princely states, including Hyderabad and Junagarh which Omar specifically mentioned as being Click to Read More

CRUCIAL ASPECT OF AYODHYA MATTER

Sunday, October 10th, 2010 9
9

Not many constitutions of the world have invested their highest judicial authority with the kind of advisory role that Art. 143 of the Indian Constitution has entrusted to the Supreme Court of India.

┬а

Art. 143 (1) reads as follows :

┬а

If at any time it appears to the President that a question of law or fact has arisen, or is likely to arise, which is of such a nature and of such public importance that it is expedient to obtain the opinion of the Supreme Court upon it, he may refer the question to that Court for consideration and the Court may, after such hearing as it thinks fit, report to the President its opinion thereon.
